The first crew with transsexual hostesses opens in Thailand

The first airline in Thailand who has contracted for the transgender job as a hostess, and thereby promote gender equality, today released the crew of the "third sex" in an inaugural flight, reported local media.

PC Air, low-cost airline, called on the test about a hundred officers of the department of civil aviation and a dozen journalists.

"This is our test flight is very well trained crew that has passed all requirements of the department," said the airline's president, Peter Chan, was quoted on television.

The airline, founded in 2010, announced last January that they plan to hire transsexuals, triggering a wave of hundreds of requests from candidates, including some familiar faces from the world of entertainment.

Chan said the company's shareholders are convinced that the initiative will contribute to the promotion of equal employment opportunities for the "third sex".

Besides transsexuals, PC Air has also hired men and women to join the crew of the aircraft.

Thailand boasts a reputation for relative tolerance for transsexuals, but the collective complaint often marginalized by the continuing social conservatism and demanding respect for their rights.
